For the past 40 years, I have written in diverse genre—sports, law, education, fiction, memoir, spirituality, sports, human interest and business. After retiring both from the practice of law as a business litigation and trial attorney and as a high school basketball coach in 2015, I became a professional writer. Since then, I finished five books. Three are published and two set for spring 2019 release.
Two are memoir: Play It Forward: From Gymboree to the Yoga Mat and Beyond and My Life, A Story of Resilience and Love.
Three are in the sports genre: Odds-On Basketball Coaching: Making High-Percentage Decisions in Game Situations; The Other Classroom: The Essential Importance of High School Athletics; and The Definitive Handbook for the Beginner High School Basketball Coach.
I am currently working on third legacy work for a client about spirituality and writing my first novel.
Being an author of original work thrills me. But I am equally jazzed to work with clients to give expression to their voice, tell their story, and connect with a target readership. Whether in the form of ghostwritten biography, blogs, articles or other client works or editing client original material, I see storytelling an art form and the most powerful written medium available.
I was born and molded in the Bronx and now live in Marin County, California.
I look forward to learning about your project and exploring the prospects of an exciting and mutually rewarding collaboration.

My name is David R. Stokes. I have authored, ghostwritten, and/or collaborated on more than 40 books, including several highly regarded works of fiction and nonfiction and two screenplays.
My own latest book is about President John F. Kennedy’s GHOSTWRITER, the man behind the 1956 Pulitzer Prize winning book, Profiles in Courage. It will published in late 2020 by Lyon’s Press and titled, JFK’S GHOST: Kennedy, Sorensen, and the Making of Profiles in Courage.
As a GHOSTWRITER, I specialize in Self-Help, History, Inspiration, Fiction, Business, Speech Writing, & Screenplays.
One of my own books, THE SHOOTING SALVATIONIST: J. Frank Norris and the Murder Trial that Captivated America (Steerforth/Penguin/Random House, 2011), a narrative non-fiction thriller set in the 1920s, became a Wall Street Journal best-seller. BOOKLIST, in a starred review, said: “The book is engagingly written, in an immediate, you-are-there style, and the story is as compelling and surprising as any Grisham thriller. Top of the line.” This book has recently been revised and enhanced (30,000 words of new material) and re-released as APPARENT DANGER: The Pastor of America’s First Megachurch and the Texas Murder Trial of the Decade in the 1920s and is under review as a potential television miniseries.
My espionage novel, CAMELOT’S COUSIN: The Spy Who Betrayed Kennedy, and my original screenplay based on it, have been optioned in Hollywood by actor Blair Underwood.
JACK & DICK: When Kennedy Met Nixon describes the very first Kennedy-Nixon debate which took place in 1947, thirteen years before the two men ran against each other for the presidency in 1960. I recreate a conversation between the two future presidents that took place on an over-night train ride back to Washington, DC. I have also written a screenplay adaptation.
JAKE & CLARA: Scandal, Politics, Hollywood, and Murder, is a dramatized, but factual account of a story that captivated American in 1921. A wealthy oil man who bankrolled much of Warren G. Harding’s successful run for the White House was shot and killed by his mistress before Harding could reward him with high office.
And as a GHOSTWRITER, I have a passion for helping people tell their stories, effectively, and compellingly.
My writing has also appeared in the following publications:
- The Richard Nixon Foundation
- The Cold War Museum/The Cold War Times
- The Daily Caller
- The Washington Post
- The Albany Times Union
- The Jewish Press
- History News Network
- The Washington Times
- Intelligencer: Journal of U.S. Intelligence Studies
- American Thinker
- Preaching Magazine

John DeSimone is a professional editor, novelist, and ghostwriter. He began working as a freelance editor for A-1 Editorial where he performed developmental and copy editing for both novelists and non-fiction writers. He guided authors through the developmental process of refining their voice and subject matter for publication. During that time he edited over a hundred books, both fiction and nonfiction.
For seven years, he worked with Christian Manuscript Critique Service, where he edited Christian writers in both a developmental and copy editing capacity. He shepherded many authors into publication through detailed analysis and editing of their manuscripts.
Recently, he completed a memoir for Natalie Suleman, Octomom, that is forthcoming from Fidelis Press in the Summer of 2017. Her untold story is about seeking a mother’s love in the strangest way possible–by having fourteen children all through IVF.
He has also recently completed a business memoir for Lizanne Falsetto, Founder of ThinkThin, Inc., titled, Catching Bees. This story details her unorthodox and exciting journey as an entrepreneur from a fashion model to CEO of one of the fastest growing health bar companies in the nation.
John’s passion is shaping life stories into contemporary memoirs that are compelling to read. The modern memoir, to find traction in today’s competitive marketplace, must go head to head with fiction. Memoirs must be well written and use a dramatic structure that creates an unstoppable reading experience. John is an expert at working with clients to develop a narrative structure that is both true to the facts but meets the high bar of today’s story-driven memoir marketplace.
John studied English literature at UC Irvine and received my MFA in creative writing from Spalding University.
From 2004 to 2012, he was the Director of the Orange County Christian Writers Conference held each spring in Irvine, California. During this time, the conference has grown to become one of the largest one-day inspirational conferences in California.
His first novel, Leonardo’s Chair, was published by River Oak in 2005. It’s an art mystery based on Da Vinci’s life. The book received good reviews and sold well.
From 2008 to 2011, he was an adjunct professor at Biola University where he taught freshman writing.
In May 2012, he won a Norman Mailer Fellowship and lived on Cape Cod for a month where he completed a draft of his fourth novel, Road to Delano.
John is an accomplished novelist, memoirist, and editor. He enjoys collaborating with authors to help them find their voice, develop their story, and realize their dreams of publishing a book worthy of their accomplishments.

Besides being a non-fiction and fiction author in my own right, I am a ghostwriter, book coach and book editor, based in Toronto, Canada and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Clients have told me I have a special skill around asking questions that make them think, really think, about their topic on a different level than they ever have. This results in a rich lode of information, which I then fashion into the book that will position the author in his or her chosen marketplace, tell their story for their children or for posterity, or share their worldwide travel adventures.
One of the things I love about working with authors is learning so much about so many subjects. I am a “people person”, easy to get along with — and fanatical about meeting deadlines!
Locations: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and Buenos Aires
Specialties: Business books, memoirs, adaptations from other media such as podcasts, how-to books
Years of Experience: 15
Books: Among the books I’ve ghostwritten or edited are: a series of books by a specialist consultant on how to grow an accounting firm; a book for an accountant teaching dentists how to run a dental practice as a business; a series of books for a professional speaker on workplace relationships and communication; a book adapted from a podcast featuring successful Canadian business people; a guide to the myths and truths of financial planning for a financial planner; a book on the luxury hotel industry for a hospitality consultant. I am currently working on a book on female hormones for an alternative medicine practitioner and a travel memoir for a digital nomad.
My own non-fiction titles include several books on communication in the workplace, a motivational book on perseverance and, most recently, “Rare Steaks, Red Wine, Hot Tango! — a rollicking memoir of Argentina”.

I am your ghostwriter.
WHAT I DO: Create persuasive narratives for nonfiction business books, memoirs, and crime fiction. I also write content for corporate leaders, startups and entertainers.
My ghostwriting services and keen interest in stories was sparked by my tenure as a reporter and editor for several newspapers, including the Los Angeles Daily News and Daily Hampshire Gazette. I bring those skills to the books, articles and screenplays I create for my clients.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU: Without a ghostwriter many corporate leaders, politicians, athletes and other busy people would never write their autobiography. Or create a blog, write an editorial or a series of articles for publication. Some very powerful people believe in ghosts. They just don’t admit it in public.
