Tom Hanlon
Bio
I wrote and edited for a publishing company for 14 years before becoming a full-time freelance writer in 2002.
My first ghostwriting project turned into a New York Times bestseller.
My second project was for a CEO who sold 35,000+ copies of the book.
Since then, I have never looked back.
I have authored, coauthored, ghostwritten, or edited 50+ books. I ghostwrite books, articles, speeches, and columns for clients and build a strong and healthy relationship with them along the way. Genres include memoir, business, education, inspirational, self-improvement, health and fitness, sports and coaching, Christian, and more.
Projects are about more than just getting the work done. They are about meeting clients’ needs and treating people with respect, trust, honesty, and integrity.
My favorite part of ghostwriting is partnering with authors. My communication, interviewing, and research skills—along with, of course, my writing abilities—help me to create the book or copy that my clients envision. I bring positive energy and constructive criticism to each project, working in tandem with the author to create the most effective copy possible.
This is how I operate:
I listen closely to my clients.
I communicate clearly through all phases of the project.
I help my clients clarify their message and achieve their goals.
I am skilled at crafting the big picture — shaping a book or product — and at carrying out the fine details.
I produce top quality copy that reflects positively on my clients.
I guide authors through the publishing process as needed — informing them on publishing issues such as: self-publishing vs. traditional publishing, how to contact agents and publishers, how to create marketing and publicity plans for books, and more.
“Tom did a great job on my book. He’s an outstanding writer and talent and is exceptional to work with.”
— Stedman Graham, President and CEO, S. Graham & Associates
“Tom is simply a delight to work with, always respectful, always thoughtful, always responsive, and always willing to give extra effort. He has taken our initiative to a different level. I am so overjoyed that I met Tom and started working with him a few years ago. I think he has transformed our work.”
— Madhu Viswanathan, Professor, College of Business, Loyola Marymount University
“My coauthor, Tom Hanlon, not only organized and greatly improved my original material, but also guided me all the way through the project. Tom was outstanding at asking the right questions to prod my memory so that I could visualize what it was really like even when I was ten or twelve years old.”
— Paul Oreffice, Former CEO, Dow Chemical, and author of Only in America: From Immigrant to CEO
