Bio

Your Story Isn’t Off-the-Rack. Neither Is My Writing.

All my clients are unique:

— The former football hero who scored big in private equity.
— The military vet whose lust for travel inspired a global adventure platform.
— The physical therapist who helped an Oscar-winning composer sit at the piano again.

“I have received wonderful notes and comments about the book, Douglas. It could not have happened without you—your writing skills, your guidance— the person that you are.”
—Stu Crum, Aim for the Uprights, Jenkins Group

I search for and help express you! Sometimes that means creating strategic content first—a blog or Substack series—then building toward a book.

I learned structure and listening skills as a journalist. I’ve interviewed thousands of people—and expressed their beliefs, fears, and triumphs in countless stories.

Sadly, too many valuable narratives go untold, buried in the Graveyard of Good Ideas, because even smart people find it difficult to—

❌Shape a long-form narrative. (Not their fault)
❌Or are too busy to write.
❌Or unsure how to publish.

Here’s How I Can Help with content and/or a book:

✅We begin by talking. Interviews that I record.
✅Then I develop a structure for telling your story.
✅I ghostwrite your tale, in your voice.
✅ Seeking a traditional publisher? I write dynamic nonfiction book proposals.

“Your endless help in pulling my story apart and spreading it out on the kitchen table allowed me to find the perfect pieces. Thank you.”
—Amy Eicher, Restoring Venus

“Douglas took my hodgepodge ramblings, episodes jotted on bar napkins, greasy notebooks salvaged from the underbelly of expedition ships and helped me shape them into ‘Outrunning the Light.’ More than a ghostwriter, Douglas became a friend, confidante, and inspiration.”
—Todd Copley, T. Copley Global

Some projects are complicated.

The Paul Newman family hired me to review a trove of personal interviews—1,000s of pages– that had been commissioned by Paul before his death. But was it a book? I found the storyline, and my book proposal ignited a bidding war that Knopf won.

FUN FACT: You don’t need a complete nonfiction manuscript to pursue a traditional publisher. A dynamic book proposal is required and saves time. One of my special services! Or begin a Substack newsletter.
