Douglas Glenn Clark
Bio
Many smart, talented people like you think about writing a book but never finish. Why? Not their fault: It is difficult to organize ideas and define chapters.
Yet I know you have a story to share. Let’s capture it in a book that entertains and helps others succeed.
MY METHOD:
I coax accomplished authors to share the key points of their personal and professional development. Victories and so-called defeats (life lessons) help us create a compelling narrative. We accomplish this through a series of in-depth interviews that I call “discovery.” Each talk is recorded to help me hear and shape your voice in prose. Then I begin to write while you go back to your daily demands.
“Thanks Douglas. I never would have gotten this far without your constant encouragement telling me my words had value. You saw something in the book before I did.”
—Adam Wilson, author of Tactical Reload, #1 Amazon releaseWHY ME?
I learned story structure and listening skills as a journalist at the Los Angeles Daily News and elsewhere. I’ve interviewed thousands of people from all walks of life—and expressed their beliefs, fears, and triumphs in countless stories.
I have also written for the theater, where character voice is essential, and co-created TV projects. Finding the drama in your narrative is one of the strengths.
FUN FACT: Nonfiction authors who wish to pursue a contract with a traditional publisher often do not need a completed manuscript. Most nonfiction projects are sold with a book proposal. I wrote the proposal that sold the Paul Newman memoir to Knopf — published in 2022. My proposal for an iconic NYC restaurant has also found a publisher. A book proposal is an excellent way to define and shape your one-of-a-kind book idea. Get that right before writing the entire manuscript. Then seek a literary agent that will present your project to publishers.
I have also guided new authors through non-traditional publishing paths. This is ideal for business leaders and others who want complete control of their content and publishing timetable.
“Douglas your writing is concise, taut, and you take what could be complicated details and roll them out seamlessly—and the pace, terrific.”— Beth Davey, Davey Literary & Media
WHY YOU?
These 5 words—”I am the author of” — still open doors, minds and opportunities. Yet many corporate leaders, politicians, and athletes shy away from telling their story or are too busy to write it themselves.
Your experiences are unique. Your story is valuable when told in a book or series of Substack chapters and episodes.
Some very powerful people believe in ghosts. They just don’t admit it in public.
My ghostwriting services and keen interest in stories was sparked by my tenure as a reporter and editor for several newspapers, including the Los Angeles Daily News and Daily Hampshire Gazette. I bring those skills to the books, articles and screenplays I create for my clients.
“I have received wonderful notes and comments about the book, Douglas. It could not have happened without you—your writing skills, your guidance— the person that you are.”
—Stu Crum, Aim for the Uprights, Jenkins GroupFICTION AND TV/FILM SCREENLAYS: I am a Writers Guild of America member and co-creator of three hour-long TV pilots for ABC and CBS. Could your book be adapted into a screenplay or TV pilot script? I encourage authors to see their book as a multiplatform entertainment project.
