Bio
What’s your end in mind, and how do you want to take readers there?
When I talk with authors about the stories they want to tell, this is something that inevitably comes up.
It might seem straightforward, but the answer can be difficult to put into words.
I especially find that true because I often work with authors who want to share their experiences dealing with and overcoming crises–whether personal, organizational, or both.
Helping them tell stories about such challenges is something I find particularly compelling and rewarding because encountering and overcoming crisis is part of the human condition. In our society, however, people tend to simply want to get through a crisis, compartmentalize it, and then move on, failing to learn rewarding lessons. I know I have also made that mistake, despite decades in the crisis management space. In great part, that’s why I am motivated to work with authors who want to help others make sense of and learn from crisis. That’s often a great place, in a general sense, to start talking about the end in mind for that kind of book.
Across my 35 years of professional writing, I’ve helped others tell stories about working to overcome organizational crises like dealing with terrorism, massive flooding, workplace violence, miscommunication across cultures, and the shortage of health care practitioners in the US. I’ve also helped tell stories of personal crises where authors have persisted through adversities due to divorce, abuse, and the stresses of going to court.
I’ve worked as a crisis communications professional for over 15 years and then moved into higher education where I taught, researched, and wrote on crisis for another 20 years. One of my books on crisis was a finalist for a national award from a major academic association. I also have served as a board member for a trauma-informed non-profit organization.
If you’re ready to tell your story of dealing with crisis, and how you have found ways to thrive regardless, then it might be time to talk about how you may have a timely and timeless book ready to be written. If so, you can reach me through my website or my email and we can discuss what you see as your end in mind and how I can help take your readers there.
